The Kansas City Chiefs selected Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher with the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft Thursday night. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound tackle started received numerous honors during his senior season including a second team-All American nomination by SI.com and a First Team All-Mac nomination.

Fisher anchored a Central Michigan offensive line that allowed just 15 sacks, which ranked No. 17 nationally in 2012. For their contributions, the Chippewas linemen helped running back Zurlon Tipton rush for 1,492 yards and 19 touchdowns, the second highest total ever by a Chippewa, according to the team's official website.

Fisher is expected to be an immediate starter for Kansas City next season and gives newly acquired quarterback Alex Smith some much needed security. The selection of Fisher adds to the uncertainty for current Chiefs offensive tackle Branden Albert, who is looking for a new deal with the team.

As the Chiefs were highly expected to take an offensive lineman, CBS Sports reported that the team was shopping the Pro Bowler to other teams, but would put a deal on hold until after the first round of Thursday's draft.
