Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer has been charged with nine counts of domestic violence stemming from two arguments with his wife in July.
Dwyer was charged with felony aggravated assault and eight misdemeanors, including assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct. The police say that Dwyer broke his wife’s nose with a head butt, punched her the next day and threw a shoe at his then-17-month-old son.

Dwyer was arrested and booked on Sept. 17 and joins Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy as players who are under fire for domestic violence since the NFL season started. Dwyer’s arrest comes at a time when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell under fire for is handling of the Rice incident.
The Cardinals placed Dwyer on the reserve/non-football illness list, meaning he can't play for Arizona again this season, soon after he was arrested. Dwyer rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown in two games for the Cardinals after leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency.

Dwyer is due in court for a status conference on October 6.
