Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings take the ice for preseason action live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The game can be live streamed here. Toronto fans can hear all of the action on TSN 1050 while Detroit fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
Toronto is gearing up for the 2014-15 season after finishing 38-36-8 (84 points) and missing the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 seasons a year ago while Detroit continues to tune up for a new season after making the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive campaign in 2013-14 by putting up a 39-28-15 record and 93 points.
The Maple Leafs were paced by Phil Kessel last season, who notched a team-best 80 points off of 37 goals and 43 assists while James van Riemsdyk notched 61 points off of 30 tallies and 31 helpers and Nazem Kadri was third on the team with 50 points as he found the back of the net 20 times and added 30 assists.
Toronto is 4-2 thus far in the preseason and tonight will mark its second-to-last game of its exhibition slate.
The Red Wings were led by Daniel Alfredsson and Niklas Kronwall last season as each had 49 points apiece. Alfredsson, who is still questionable to play this season due to a nagging back, put up 18 goals and 31 assists last season while Kronwall notched eight markers and 41 helpers.
Detroit is still awaiting word on the future of Alfredsson.
"Before he takes the next step, which would be to join our team on a PTO, he wants to make sure in his own mind that he feels good day after day after day," general manager Ken Holland told The Detroit Free Press. "He has tested it on his own, on ice, off ice. He doesn't want to come back, be on the ice for two days, then leave again."
The Red Wings are 2-2 thus far in the preseason and have three more games after tonight.
The Maple Leafs and Red Wings continue their preseason slates when they take the ice tonight at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
