Lawyer: Grand Jury Investigation Into Kevin Ward's Death Won't Result in Charges for Tony Stewart [VIDEO]

On the surface, the investigation into the death of Kevin Ward Jr. being turned over to a grand jury didn't sound like great news for Tony Stewart.

An Indianapolis lawyer, however, says the news should bring Stewart some relief.

According to Fox59.com, the Fox network affiliate in Indianapolis, attorney Jack Crawford said passing on of the investigation into the tragedy - in which Tony Stewart's car caught Ward on the right said and knocked him about 50 feet and seemingly killing him on the spot from a blunt force trauma - was going to a grand jury in Ontario County, New York should result in absolving Stewart of any blame.

End of NASCAR season could determine whether Tony Stewart still has the will to race

"The fact that the Tony Stewart case is going to a Grand Jury in Ontario County New York suggests to me that there is not going to be a charge or an indictment. If the prosecutor had a strong case, he could charge outright," said Crawford.

Crawford said he believes the district attorney will present the case to the grand jury within the next 45 days and that Stewart could be asked to testify.

"He doesn't have to, but he can if he wants too. I would advise my client not to," said Crawford.

That could be the one drawback from the results of the case. Racing fans might wonder what Stewart would have to hide if he elects not to testify.

Stewart has said that he would have further comment once the legal process of the case concluded. The veteran driver better stick to his word.

Crawford suggested a key piece of the grand jury investigation would be Ward's own actions in getting out of his car and walking in the middle of the race track toward Stewart.

"Did (Ward) himself contribute to his own death?" Crawford asked, according to the Fox affiliate. "If that is the case, Mr. Stewart won't be charged with any criminal violations."
