The Minnesota Vikings have backtracked on their decision to play Adrian Peterson for their Week 3 matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Peterson has been placed on the NFL’s exempt/commissioner's permission list and will be barred from the team until his day in court.

The Vikings will host a press conference to announce the decision and are expected to face some hard questioning considering how they have flip-flopped on this important issue. Peterson is banned from being at the Vikings’ facility but will still be paid.

The decision to ban Peterson comes in light of NFL sponsors Nike and Anheuser-Busch calling for swifter, more punitive action when handling domestic violence cases.

Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf released a statement after the announcement and are also expected to take questions at the press conference Wednesday.

"We want to be clear: we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children, and we want to be sure we get this right. At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community,” the Wilfs said. “Adrian emphasized his desire to avoid further distraction to his teammates and coaches while focusing on his current situation; this resolution accomplishes these objectives as well.”
