Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III revealed that he doesn’t have a fracture in his dislocated left ankle and he could return at some point this season.

The recovery period for Griffin’s injury is still unknown, but the fact that there is no fracture in his ankle is good news for the Redskins quarterback.

Redskin coach Jay Gruden said that he doesn't have a timetable for Griffin’s recovery, but that he will not place his starting quarterback on season-ending injured reserve. Gruden addressed the media and left the door open for Griffin to return, but also implied that backup Kirk Cousins could keep the job if his performance is adequate.

“We’ll cross that bridge when that comes. Right now we’re going to prepare with Kirk Cousins as our starter, and Robert’s going to rehab. All decisions after that will come after that,” Gruden said.

Griffin was playing well for the Redskins before getting injured early in Washington’s Week 2 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cousins stepped in for the Redskins and played very well in relief. Cousins completed 22 of 33 passes for 250 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions as the Redskins rolled to a 41-10 victory.

Griffin was the No. 2 overall pick for the Redskins in the 2012 NFL draft and Washington traded a king’s ransom to move up to that pick. The team also drafted Cousins in that same draft and have received plenty of interest in the backup quarterback via trade.

Cousins is the No. 16 fantasy quarterback for Week 3 according to Fantasy Pros as the Redskins travel to Philadelphia to play the 2-0 Eagles.
