Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer missed the team’s Week 2 game against the New York Giants due to a nerve injury in his shoulder and could be out for an extended period of time according to coach Bruce Arians.

Arians spoke to the media concerning Palmer’s status going forward and he said that the team is being extremely cautious due to the nature of the injury.

Greg Hardy's Future with Panthers in Doubt?

"I think anytime you're dealing with nerves, you're concerned," Arians said. "I saw what happened with Peyton (Manning) and how long it took with him, but his was after neck surgery. This is just a bruised nerve that's being ornery.”

As for Palmer’s status for the Cardinals' Week 3 divisional matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, Arians said that if Palmer can play, he will.

"If he can go, he'll go," Arians said. "This is one of those crazy things where you'll wake up one day and be fine. We don't know what day that's going to be though. That's the thing.”

The 34-year-old Palmer is in the twilight of his career and threw for 304 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions before being injured in the Cardinals' Week 1 win against the San Diego Chargers. Drew Stanton is expected to start for Arizona again if Palmer cannot play on Sunday, but the team also has rookie Logan Thomas on the roster if Stanton were to stumble.
