In the wake of Adrian Peterson's alleged abuse of his 4-year-old son, ESPN analyst Cris Carter spoke out against child abuse on Sunday.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson Turns Himself In

An emotional Carter admitted he was disciplined as a child through spanking. "My mom did the best she could do," he said. "My mom was wrong."

During his rant Carter praised the Minnesota Vikings, who immediately deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots once the news broke.

"The only thing I'm proud about is the team that I played for. They did the right thing," Carter said. "Take him off the field...Take him off the doggone field. Because you know what? As a man, that's the only thing we really respect. We don't respect no women, we don't respect no kids. The only thing Roger and them do-take him off the field, because they respect that."

After being indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child and having a warrant issued for his arrest on Friday, Peterson turned himself in to authorities in Texas early Saturday morning. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and released after posting $15,000 bond.

According to reports, the charges stem from Peterson using a switch to discipline his son. Sports Radio 610 in Houston reported that he removed the leaves of a tree branch to spank the child. According to the report by the Houston station, the incident occurred in May in Spring, Texas. Peterson punished his son for pushing another one of his children and the boy suffered multiple cuts and bruises to areas including his back, legs and ankles.
