Lawrence Frank Fired: Pistons Fire Coach After Two Seasons

The Detroit Pistons fired coach Lawrence Frank on Thursday, according to ESPN.com. Frank led the Pistons to a 29-53 record this season and was 54-94 since taking over the job in Detroit.

Frank's dismissal was widely expected for some time, after the Pistons lost 27 of 36 games in the second half of the season before ending the season with four wins of their final five games.

"We thank Lawrence for his hard work and dedication, but we feel it is in the best interest of the franchise to make a change at this time," Pistons president Joe Dumars said in a statement released to ESPN. "Decisions like this are never easy and we wish Lawrence well in the future."

ESPN.com reported two weeks ago that Frank was the NBA coach most likely  to lose his job at the end of the season. According to sources, Frank himself resigned to his fate for several days.

A meeting with Pistons owner Tom Gores finally confirmed Frank;s dismissal, after Gores only offered lukewarm support for his struggling coach when asked about his future.
