Tonight at 10:15 p.m. ET, the Arizona Diamondbacks (59-85) and San Francisco Giants (79-65) take the field at AT&T Park for the middle contest of a three-game series live from San Francisco. The game can be live streamed for free here. Arizona fans can hear all of the action on Arizona Sports 98.7 while San Francisco fans can do the same on KNBR 680.
Arizona looks to play spoiler as it continues the last leg of a 10-game road trip that it is 2-6 on thus far while San Francisco looks to add to its spot atop the wild-card as it continues a six-game homestand that opened up Tuesday night. The Giants defeated the Diamondbacks 5-1 Tuesday in what was the fourth straight loss for the D-Backs.
San Francisco enters play in second place in the National League West, 2.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and it holds the top wild-card spot with a 4.5-game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates while Arizona is out of playoff contention.
Josh Collmenter (10-7, 3.81 ERA) takes the ball for the Diamondbacks while the Giants counter with Ryan Vogelsong, who is 8-10 with a 4.06 ERA.
San Francisco has been heating up at the right time thanks in part to rookie second baseman Joe Panik, who is hitting .327 thus far.
"You never know what the day is going to bring," Panik told the Giants' website. "You've just got to keep working and hopefully everything turns out."
The Giants have also been sparked by outfielder Hunter Pence and catcher Buster Posey thus far this season.
Pence leads the NL with 172 hits and is second with 101 runs and 278 total bases while his eight triples are tied with teammate Brandon Crawford for second in the league. Posey's .306 batting average ranks him fifth in the NL and he paces the team with 20 homers and 81 RBI.
Arizona is hoping their bats will come to life after Yusmeiro Petit allowed just four hits against them in Tuesday night's tilt in which he turned in a complete game.
"He was very good," manager Kirk Gibson said afterward, according to MLB.com. "If you just look at it, all his strikes were on the corners and down in zone, and that's why he's successful."
Arizona's offense, when firing on all cylinders, has been paced mostly by catcher Miguel Montero in the absence of first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (fractured hand). Montero paces the team's qualifiers with a .252 batting average and 71 RBI while he's also belted 13 homers.
The Diamondbacks look to play spoiler while the Giants hope to pad their lead atop the NL wild-card race when these teams take the field this afternoon at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
