Adrien "The Problem" Broner is an accomplished fighter, with three titles in three weight classes at the age of 25, but after taking his first loss vs. Marcos Maidana in 2013 there were questions about the ceiling for his potential.
Yes, Broner had won three titles, but his competition up until the Maidana fight had been in question. Broner has rebounded since losing to Maidana, dominating Carlos Molina and Emmanuel Taylor in 2014-and the latter victory impressed his "big bro" Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"After watching college football I tuned in to the Adrien Broner fight. I was impressed," Mayweather said.
"I actually had a long talk with Adrien the day before yesterday. He's a remarkable fighter. He has all the tools, all the skills, but there is a lot he has to learn-not just inside the ring but outside the ring. I was young like him at one particular time and I made certain moves that I shouldn't have made but I didn't have a Floyd Mayweather to tell me 'you shouldn't do this or shouldn't do that. Adrien Broner is a good kid but he's still learning. He's still young."
While Broner looked dominant throughout his fight with Molina, and quick-handed as ever vs. Taylor, neither opponent was held in high regard entering their fights with Broner. His proposed next bout, however, could be a star-making fight.
After beating Taylor Broner addressed comments he made about fighting Lucas Matthysse next when Showtime announcer Jim Gray reminded him that he had "kind of" called Matthysse out.
"Listen, like I said before, I didn't 'kind of' call out nobody. I said, my next fight should be Matthysse. And he can get it," Broner said. "If I could, I'd fight Matthysse with this cut tonight."
Matthysse was the co-feature on the fight card, knocking out previously unbeaten Roberto Ortiz with a body shot in the second round.
