The Oakland Raiders lost to the New York Jets 19-14, but positives came out of the game for the "Black Hole" as fans got their first regular season look at rookie Derek Carr. Does Carr look the part of a franchise signal caller and what can be expected from the rookie going forward?
Carr spoke to the media following the loss to the Jets and said that this wasn't his first loss and it will certainly not his last.
“This isn’t my first time losing a game and it’s not my first time dealing with adversity," he said. "You can put it all on me, because I am going to go ahead and work my tail off and we’re going to fix things.”
He showed flashes against a very stout Jets defense, but also showed that he has room to grow in his first appearance. Carr finished 20 of 32 passing with 151 yards and two touchdowns in a game where he rarely threw downfield.

When Carr went downfield he had moderate success and even made the game much closer with a 30-yard touchdown in which James Jones had to make a circus catch. Carr was the bright spot for the Raiders as a 19-14 score didn't really tell the story of the game.
The Jets looked better in all parts of the game, but constantly made mistakes via botch plays and penalties. Carr kept his poise against a solid Jets defense, but the lack of a running game (25 yards total compared to the Jets 212) ended all talk of a comeback.

The Raiders have a ways to go as they look to get back into contention in the NFL, but with Carr at the helm the future looks a little brighter.
