Today at 1:00 p.m. ET the Kansas City Chiefs (0-0) will attempt to remove the stench from last season's shocking playoff collapse vs. the Indianapolis Colts at home inside Arrowhead Stadium against the Tennessee Titans (0-0). Last season the Chiefs coughed up a 38-10 third quarter lead in the postseason and lost 45-44. A defeat like that can wreck a team's psyche long term, but linebacker Tamba Hali discussed the team's need to erase the bad memory.
"What happened in the past, you can't do anything about it," Hali said. "We just have to build on it."
Last season the Chiefs rode running back Jamaal Charles, who carried the rock 259 times for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. That may be more difficult this season though, after left tackle Branden Albert bolted via free agency along with two other starters, and current right tackle Donald Stephenson was hit with a four-game drug suspension.
"I just care about getting the best five out there," head coach Andy Reid said of his offensive line, noting draft pedigree wouldn't be a deciding factor.
The Titans also have high hopes, especially if they can keep QB Jake Locker healthy. He was having a big season prior to getting injured fairly early in the year in 2013. While Locker's always been viewed as a high-upside player, he appears to have the full trust of his offensive line.
"I got all the confidence in the world in him, did last year too," left tackle Michael Roos said. "He's proved himself. He just unfortunately has had some freak injuries. I think it's just a matter of him staying healthy."
