Yankees Honor Boston: Team Puts Aside Rivalry To Honor Boston Marathon Victims

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the New York Yankees put aside their long rivalry with the Red Sox to honor the city of Boston by embracing Red Sox traditions during their game Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yankee Stadium rang out the song "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, a Fenway Park traditional song, following the third inning of Tuesday night's game in tribute to the city of Boston.

Prior to the game, the Yankees held a moment of silence to honor the victims of the explosions during Monday's Boston Marathon. Yankee Stadium video boards also included the caption "United We Stand" between both teams' logos to show support for the city.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and the families who were affected by the bombings and our respect and admiration go out to the police, medical personnel and first responders who acted so heroically," the Yankees said in a statement released to ESPN. "We stand united with the participants, volunteers, staff and spectators of the Boston Marathon and the people of Boston."

The Yankees declined to comment on increased security measures at Yankee Stadium, only adding they are working with all levels of law enforcement to ensure a safe environment.

Both the Yankees and Red Sox were successful in winning their games on Tuesday night. The Yankees beat Arizona 4-2, while the Sox took a 7-2 road win over Cleveland.
