No. 1 Novak Djokovic survived against No. 8 Andy Murray and No. 3 Stan Wawrinka fell to No. 10 Kei Nishikori as the second half of the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows start on Thursday.

Djokovic spoke about his thrilling 7-6 (1), 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-4 victory over Murray and said that he knew going in that it would be his toughest challenge to date for the U.S. Open.

"I knew coming into tonight's match that it's going to be tough, that he's going to go for his shots and the more aggressive one would win it," the No. 1-ranked and No. 1-seeded Djokovic said. "I'm glad I managed to stay fit in the end and pull it through.”

Djokovic will face Kei Nishikori after he defeated No. 3 Stan Wawrinka 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-4. Nishikori is the first man from Japan to make the U.S. Open semifinals since Ichiya Kumagae in 1918.

No. 2 Roger Federer will face No. 20 Gael Monfils at 7:00 p.m. and No. 6 Tomas Berdych will kick off the action against No. 14 Marin Cilic at 12:00 p.m.
