The WWE invited rookie defensive end Michael Sam to this Monday's edition of RAW after the St. Louis Rams cut him last weekend, but now that he has signed on to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, the WWE has changed the invite to a future episode of its flagship program.

The WWE congratulated Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted when he was taken in the seventh round of May's NFL Draft out of Missouri, on landing a job with the Cowboys and extended an invitation to a future episode of RAW.

"Congratulations to Michael Sam on signing with the Dallas Cowboys!" the company wrote on WWE.com. "WWE will extend its invitation for Michael Sam to appear on any future Monday Night Raw he wishes. We offer our support for Michael as he continues his journey."

Sam was selected by the Rams in the NFL Draft, but the team cut him last weekend despite the defensive end having a solid preseason. The WWE then invited Sam to come to RAW where they'd provide an open microphone for him to share his thoughts about being cut.

The Cowboys then picked him up which squashed any chances of him being on RAW. Prior to that, Stephanie McMahon wrote an open letter to Sam imploring him to come to RAW.

"Exhibiting class and dignity rarely shown in professional sports, Michael Sam, WWE invites you to next Monday's Raw to speak of your struggles to succeed, lessons you have learned along the way, the courage it takes to be yourself and the prospects of your continued journey," she wrote.

"You are a role model, who, by example, can encourage everyone to stand up and openly be themselves.

Signed,
Stephanie McMahon
CBO, WWE"

The WWE is trying to stack up Monday's show since it goes head-to-head with the NFL for the first time this season as Monday Night Football returns with the New York Giants visiting the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, the site of WWE WrestleMania 23.

Monday's show is a jam-packed episode as the WWE has already also announced a Steel Cage Match between Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt and another SummerSlam rematch pitting Roman Reigns against Randy Orton.

The WWE announced that Jerry Springer will also be on-hand to try and settle the sibling dispute between Nikki Bella and Brie Bella.

Sam, 24, had 48 tackles last season in Missouri along with 11.5 sacks. The Cowboys open up their season Sunday and host the San Francisco 49ers.
