Cowboys owner Jerry Jones let leak the fact that he and Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had a conversation in which the All-Pro back said he would like to play in Dallas. If the Cowboys and Vikings were to do business on a Peterson trade, now is the time for that to occur.

The Cowboys have a knack for making national headlines and the Vikings are entering another phase of their franchise's history headed by a new stadium and Teddy Bridgewater. Is it so crazy to think that Minnesota could cash in Peterson while he still has a massive amount of value on the open market?

Rant Sports agrees that the Vikings would have to consider an offer from the Cowboys if they were to be genuinely interested in the 29-year-old running back.

“The Vikings and Cowboys have done business before, with Dallas sending running back Herschel Walker to Minnesota in October of 1989 for some veteran players and a boatload of draft picks that set up their success in the early 1990′s. I don’t expect the Vikings to get that kind of haul from the Cowboys in a hypothetical trade involving Peterson, but a first-round pick or two along with running back DeMarco Murray would be a good place to start.”

Adrian Peterson Told Jerry Jones he Wants to Play in Dallas

DeMarco Murray and a first-round pick or two sounds about right for a player of Peterson’s caliber, but would the Cowboys be willing to make the deal? Running backs have such a short shelf life that there hasn't been one drafted in the first round of the NFL draft since 2011 when Trent Richardson, Doug Martin and David Wilson were taken.

Peterson is going to be 30 years old before the start of the 2015 season and that is the notorious age for running backs to show rapid decline. If the Vikings are going to deal their franchise player, they would be wise to deal him before he starts to show the rust on the gears.
