When arbitrator Harold Henderson upheld the NFL's season-long suspension of Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, he did more than keep Gordon from wearing a Cleveland uniform. The decision prevents Gordon from playing professional football anywhere this year.

According to an ESPN NFL Insider, Gordon planned to look into possibly joining a CFL team. That option, however, was immediately quashed Thursday when a CFL official that its rules prohibit any of its teams from signing a player under contract with any other professional league, including the NFL.

The suspension effectively bans Gordon, a repeat violator of the league's drug policy, from participating in Browns meetings, practices or any other functions involving the team. He must participate in the NFL's substance-abuse treatment program, which requires counseling and submission to random drug testing.
