Thursday marks the first major day of action in the second round of the U.S. Open as most of the field did not play on Wednesday.

No. 3 Stan Wawrinka was one of only two matches from the men’s draw on Wednesday and he survived a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1) marathon against 91st-ranked Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil. Other than having a challenging match, Wawrinka had to deal with a heckling fan and at one point even told the fan to ‘shut up.’

"At the end of the day, they start to get a little bit drunk," Wawrinka said at his news conference, shaking his head and chuckling. "It was OK. I had to talk to a few of them. At the end, it's normal. ... Everybody was into the match. That's OK. It can happen.”

No. 6 Tomas Berdych, No. 7 Grigor Dimitrov and No. 14 Marin Cilic advanced out of their first round matches and are officially scheduled for the second round.
