The latest in the investigation into Tony Stewart's role in the death of Kevin Ward Jr. is only more silence.

According to WBTV.com in Charlotte, North Carolina via the Charlotte Observer, the investigation into the Aug. 9 tragedy in which Tony Stewart's race car hit Ward and killed him is "still on-going."

Media speculation warranted in absence of evidence in Tony Stewart investigation

A spokeswoman for the Ontario County (New York) Sheriff's Office told the Observer that a timetable on when officials expect to complete the investigation has not been determined, either. That news is consistent with the comments of Sheriff Philip Povero, who said two weeks ago that the investigation could last longer than two weeks.

Stewart and Ward were competitors in a sprint car race on the dirt track at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The two were racing side by side when their cars collided, sending the 20-year-old Ward into the wall.

Are Tony Stewart's handlers prolonging their boss' anguish?

From amateur video taken during the race, Ward climbed out of his car and acted angry as he walked toward the oncoming race cars under caution to confront Stewart as he was coming around again. Ward pointed to Stewart but got too close, and Stewart's car hit him and knocked him dozens of feet, killing him.

Stewart has not commented about the incident or raced since that fateful event. Tyler Graves, a friend of Ward's, has contended that Stewart hit the throttle as he was passing Ward, and the act made Stewart's back end veer right and caught Ward. Graves believes that Stewart did not intentionally try to hit Ward but was showing Ward his anger by hitting the throttle and losing control of the car just enough to create the tragedy.

The absence of Stewart, who is an owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, has left his team in limbo as it tries to navigate through the rest of the NASCAR season, Yahoo! Sports reported.

"It's just an emotional roller coaster all week, you know what I mean?" Zipadelli said after Saturday night's Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. "It is what it is.

"We do the best we can with what we've got right now. We'll keep praying, keep our fingers crossed that we get the boss back sooner rather than later."
