The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded for Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins on Tuesday, but where does that leave the San Francisco 49ers and guard Alex Boone?
Buccaneers Remain Interested in Richie Incognito?
Boone has been vocal in his attempts to be traded out of San Francisco after the 49ers brass refused to negotiate a new contract for the disgruntled guard, but where do the two sides stand in light of the Mankins’ trade?
The Buccaneers were one of the teams that were rumored to be interested in trading for the guard and even made calls to the 49ers before moving on to Mankins. Now that Tampa Bay is out of trade discussions, the New York Giants look like the only team that could pull the trigger.
The Giants have been looking for guard help ever since Chris Snee retired earlier this month, but it is unknown if the Giants would part with the asking price for Boone. Many believed the 49ers are asking for something “groundbreaking” for the guard and after Mankins was traded for a player and a fourth round pick, you have to believe Boone warrants more.
If a team is willing to deal around a second round pick, that might be the only way to pry Boone away from the 49ers. Until then the two sides sit on opposite sides of the argument as the season gets ever closer.
The 49ers also made two major roster moves by moving linebacker NaVorro Bowman and running back Marcus Lattimore to the physically unable to perform and non-football injury list, respectively.
