The 2014 Street League Skateboarding Nike SB Super Crown World Championship was up for grabs this past weekend as the top eight skateboarders in the world battled it out at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Nyjah Huston ultimately won the championship on the final trick.
The eight skateboarders made it to the finals by ranking in the top eight standings for the 2014 season.
Luan Oliveira took an early lead by starting off the event with a score of 8.9 in the Flow Section, barely edging Huston's score of 8.6 and Torey Pudwill's 8.5.
In the Impact Section, Oliveira failed to land his Fakie Flip attempt and went from first place to last and was eliminated from the competition. Chaz Ortiz landed the first trick of the section with a Crooked Grind Nollie Flip, scoring an 8.9. Huston then earned the first 9 score of the day with a Cab 270 Noseblunt for a 9.0. But SLS rookie Matt Berger earned the highest score of the section with a 9.2 on his Backside Tailslide Big Flip to make the Control Section finals for the first time in his career.
The Control Section was the most competitive section of the competition with each of the final six skateboarders having their chance to take first place. Berger started with a 9.0 couldn't land has last few attempts and fell to fifth place. Pudwill scored a 9.0 on his Kickflip Backside Flipside to take first place, and it all came down to Huston's last trick.
Huston trailed by less than six points when he went for his final attempt. He went to his signature trick, the Caballerial Flip, and landed it to score a 7.8 and take home the championship.
Huston took first place at every stop and swept the 2014 season.
