Now that Kevin Love has been traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, teams are starting to turn their eyes to Detroit Pistons forward Josh Smith.

Josh Smith Potential Replacement For Kevin Love

The Charlotte Hornets are the latest team to inquire about the power forward and many believe a move could be on the horizon. There has been no formal offers between the two sides, but According to Alex Kennedy from Basketball Insiders believes that the Hornets should jump on Smith while his value is at it’s lowest.

“It’s interesting. The Pistons are definitely open to moving Josh Smith, but the question is what would the Hornets have to give up? I wouldn’t give up anything significant to land Smith. He is coming off an awful season and his contract is hideous. If Charlotte can snag him for pennies on the dollar because his trade value is at an all-time low, it could be a good move, but there’s no way I’d part with anything of value to acquire Smith.”

Smith would be the latest splash the Hornets make this offseason as they signed Lance Stephenson away from the Indiana Pacers and attempted to sign Gordon Hayward from the Jazz, but Utah matched the max contract offer.

T-Wolves Shopping Ricky Rubio

If the Hornets can come away with Smith, they will be taking a huge step in the right direction as they continue a large scale remodel to the franchise. The Hornets finished 43-39 last season and made the playoffs as the seven seed in the Eastern Conference.

Smith was considered a disappointment for the Pistons last season even though he averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field last season.
