The Houston Texans have been rumored to be interested in New England Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett since before the NFL draft, but as the season draws near, could the Texans finally pull the trigger?
Vikings, 49ers Discussing Trade for Christian Ponder?
Mallett has been on the trade block for the New England Patriots since the end of the 2013 season, yet they just can’t seem to land a trade partner. The Houston Texans were rumored to be the team most likely to land Mallett due to their dilapidated quarterback situation and coach Bill O’Brien’s connection to Mallett.
The Texans opted not to trade for Mallett and instead signed veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick away from the Tennessee Titans and drafted Pittsburgh’s Tom Savage in the fifth round of the NFL draft. The lack of production from those two options this preseason has caused the Mallett to Houston rumors to spark up again.
Fitzpatrick was much better in the Texans second preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, but his anemic performance against the Arizona Cardinals the week before has left a bad taste in many people’s mouths.
The Texans open up the 2014 season at home against the Washington Redskins, but who will start at quarterback for Houston remains a mystery.
