There have been multiple reports that Rey Mysterio and the WWE are in a contract dispute as Mysterio is looking to leave the company and some updates have come to light regarding what happened between both sides.

Daniel Bryan Reportedly Needs Tommy John Surgery, Likely Out Three Months

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Mysterio told Triple H when his contract was up this year that he was not interested in renewing his deal and the two had a handshake agreement to go their separate ways once Mysterio's deal was up.

Reports then came out that the WWE exercised a clause in Mysterio's contract that allowed them to renew his deal for another year against his will since he missed so much time and the company felt he owed it time, leading to them exercising the clause.

According to the report, WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon had Mark Carrano from the talent relations department call Mysterio to inform him that the WWE was renewing his pact with the company for one more year based on the clause that is reportedly in all WWE Superstars contracts, going against Triple H's agreement.

Mysterio has been sidelined with a hand injury, but he hasn't wrestled since appearing in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX and then the following night, April 7, where he lost to Bad News Barrett on Monday Night RAW.

There was some talk of Mysterio, a California native, making some media appearances during SummerSlam weekend in Los Angeles, but the WWE opted not to have him there, likely to avoid facing questions about his contract.

Mysterio has reportedly wanted to return to Mexico to wrestle for the AAA promotion. During SummerSlam weekend, Mysterio appeared on a video at AAA's TripleMania XII event congratulating the promotion on 22 years of success.

Mysterio told the fans of AAA he'd see them soon and at the end of the video a graphic saying, #FreeRey was shown, likely referring to his WWE contract dispute.

Alberto Del Rio returned to AAA that very same night just days after being fired from the WWE for an incident that saw him slap a WWE employee over an alleged racist comment the employee made about him.

The WWE was reportedly very angry at Mysterio appearing in the AAA video while being under contract with them, and they could take legal action.

Mysterio wants to move on from the WWE, but it seems as though the two sides are dead-locked in a contract dispute causing a delay in Mysterio's defection to AAA
