It was welcome news for the Pistorius family, who awaits the Sept. 11 verdict in Oscar Pistorius' murder trial.

Oscar Pistorius' lawyer argues his client's actions on the night of his girlfriend's death resembled that of an abused woman

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Carl Pistorius, the 29-year-old brother of Oscar who went into respiratory failure after a head-on car crash on Aug. 1, has made a miraculous recovery and has been discharged from the Intensive Care Unit.

International Eyewitness News reported that Carl Pistorius was driving back from a business meeting in the city of Polokwane in South Africa when a car heading in the opposite direction swerved into Pistorius' lane and collided with him.

Eyewitness News added that authorities announced both drivers required the Jaws of Life to be removed from their cars.

Claims of mishandled evidence could affect the verdict in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial?

"Carl suffered poly-trauma injuries during the accident," family spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess told AFP. "These included lacerations to his heart and liver and he also went into respiratory failure. He has made a miraculous recovery after specialist care intervention and was discharged from ICU late last week. Carl is overwhelmed with gratitude for the support he has received from family, friends and the public."

Oscar's brother, who has been a source of support for the double-amputee Olympic sprinter, couldn't attend the closing-arguments portion of Oscar's trial because of the crash.

Pistorius is waiting on a decision expected Sept. 11 from South African judge Thokozile Masipa whether she believes that Pistorius intentionally shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius faces 25 years to life in prison if found guilty of premeditated murder, but he also could be sentenced to a shorter prison term if convicted of murder without premeditation or negligent killing.
