Two clubs chasing CONCACAF Champions League glory will do battle today in a group-stage match between D.C. United and Waterhouse. The Group 4 clash scheduled for 8 p.m. ET will be held at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. and can be live streamed here free. Additional TV coverage can be found on Fox Sports 2.
It's been five years since D.C. United last blessed the CONCACAF Champions League stage. For striker Fabian Espindola, it's been far less than that. The Argentine featured for Real Salt Lake in 2011, but was unable to capture the title, falling to Monterrey in the final. For Espindola, the desire to finish the job he couldn't three years ago still burns with intensity.
"Being in the final and not winning it," a steely Espíndola told MLSsoccer.com last week, "that's burned into my brain, honestly. I want to win that tournament."
"I think we're put together well to succeed in this tournament," he added. "The problem in general with this tournament, though, is that a Mexican club, for example, can carry 35 players on their roster. Here in the States, teams are smaller; you get a couple of injuries, and all of a sudden things get complicated for you. It's tough to win a championship that way."
