Minnesota Timberwolves Rumors: Josh Smith Potential Replacement For Kevin Love? [VIDEO]

The Minnesota Timberwolves are only days away from being able to finalize their trade for Andrew Wiggins, but the team could also be looking for Kevin Love’s replacement in the meantime.

Celtics, Kings Revisit Rajon Rondo Trade Talks

According to Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders, the Timberwolves could look to Detroit Pistons forward Josh Smith as a replacement for Kevin Love.

“That’s an interesting thought, as I definitely think Smith is better suited to play the power forward (exclusively) at this juncture. They’re currently paying Pek about $12 per and will probably end up maxing Rubio out, but they are actually slightly over the cap already so it would require them putting together a package of players that Detroit would want in return. Easier said than done, as we know most trades that even make it to the discussion or negotiation stages rarely come to full fruition. I do like the idea, because it would also potentially open up the log-jam in Detroit’s frontcourt.”

The Pistons have been rumored to be shopping around players like Smith and Greg Monroe, but would Smith be an option for the Timberwolves?

Timberwolves Ideal Fit for Andrew Wiggins

Minnesota is expected to land Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a future first round pick in exchange for Love. After they complete that trade, Minnesota is then expected to send Bennett to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for veteran forward Thaddeus Young.

If Young plays small forward for the T-Wolves, Josh Smith could become an option for Minnesota. The Timberwolves would have a need for a power forward and the Pistons want to shed the $40.5 million that Smith is owed over the next three years.

Smith was considered a disappointment for the Pistons last season even though he averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field last season.
