The Browns have made their decision at the quarterback position and veteran Brian Hoyer will start for Cleveland Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

NFL Poll Reveals Players Feelings Toward Johnny Manziel

Cleveland coach Mike Pettine made the decision public on Wednesday and said that Hoyer’s leadership and connection to the team was the deciding factor.

"He was the clear leader from the beginning," coach Mike Pettine said in a statement. "We've maintained all along that if it was close, I would prefer to go with the more experienced player. Brian has done a great job in the meeting rooms and with his teammates on the practice field and in the locker room.”

Although Hoyer gets the nod at the moment, rookie Johnny Manziel was drafted by the Browns to be the franchise's next signal caller. Hoyer is a stopgap for the media storm that is the Johnny Football experience. The question now is when will Johnny Manziel be named the starter for the Browns?

Barring injury to either Manziel or Hoyer, Johnny Football should see time as the Browns starter this season. Manziel will not play in the Browns Week 1 matchup against Dick Lebeau and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but this could be a blessing to Manziel considering Pittsburgh’s reputation against rookie quarterbacks.

If and when the Browns season starts to head south, that is when you will see Manziel in action. With games against the Steelers, New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Raves to open the season, Manziel could be looking at a Week 5 matchup against the Tennessee Titans as his first career start. If the Browns are staring down the barrel at an 0-3 or 1-2 record heeding into the bye week on Week 4, what else would the team have to lose by seeing what they have in Manziel.

Johnny Manziel will make his first start Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, book it.
