The Seattle Seahawks and free-agent cornerback Antoine Winfield are close to reaching an agreement on a contract that would bring the 35-year-old cornerback to Seattle next season, ESPN reported Wednesday. Winfield was released by the Minnesota Vikings last month after spending eight years with the team, which included three trips to the pro bowl and an all-pro season in 2008.

Following his release, Winfield became an unrestricted free agent and garnered interest from multiple teams. The cornerback visited the Seahawks on Tuesday after meeting with the Washington Redskins last week.

With the acquisition of Winfield, Seattle would strengthen an already impressive pass defense. Winfield would join Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner, who combined for all of the Seahawks' 11 interceptions last season.

Winfield recorded 100 combined tackles last season for Minnesota with 71 solo and 29 assisted, while intercepting three passes. The former all-pro has a career total of 27 interceptions and 1,052 combined tackles during his 13 years of NFL experience.
