Two clubs chasing the Apertura Liga MX title will do battle today in a league match between Queretaro and Veracruz. After missing the 2014 Clausura Liguilla by the slimmest of margins, Ignacio Ambriz has set higher expectations. The Queretaro boss has lifted his side to third in the Liga MX table with nine points. For Ambriz, qualifying for the Apertura Liguilla isn't enough, though. Reaching the league final remains the goal.
"Today, the only thing that we're looking for is to give the team balance, consistency and make them work," he said (via Record). "I can only thank the directors that kept me on board [after missing the playoffs] and I expect to repay them."
"I can tell you the team has a solid foundation and we can aspire to achieve more," he added. "This tournament we aspire to qualify for the playoffs and make the final."
The next step toward that goal will be taken with a victory over Veracruz tonight.
