Tiger Woods has announced that he has withdrawn his name from consideration to play in the Ryder Cup and has informed team captain Tom Watson of his status. Now that Woods is officially on the shelf, who is set to replace him?

Woods spoke about his status and said that he needs to take the time to assess his injured back and get his health back.

"While I greatly appreciate Tom thinking about me for a possible captain's pick, I must take myself out of consideration," Woods said. "I've been told by my doctors and trainer that my back muscles need to be rehabilitated and healed. They've advised me not to play or practice now.

"I'm extremely disappointed that I won't be ready for the competition. The U.S. team and the Ryder Cup mean too much to me not to be able to give it my best. I'll be cheering for the U.S. team. I think we have an outstanding squad going into the matches.”

Now that Tiger is out of the Ryder Cup, there are plenty of players who are poised to take his at-large bid. Jason Dufner, Ryan Moore and Brendon Todd rank at the top of the list as they missed the automatic qualification by finishing 10th, 11th and 12th respectively in the point standings.

Other options for Watson to consider are Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker, who all represented the United Staes in the 2012 Ryder Cup. Without Woods, the Ryder Cup lost one of it’s biggest stars, but golf will prevail seeing how it just celebrated one of the best tournaments in recent memory absent Tiger.

The Ryder Cup beings on September 26 and Watson has to make his decision on the at-large selections by September 2.
