The WWE announced on Thursday that it has parted ways with Alberto Del Rio after a backstage incident, and stories are flying around behind-the-scenes as to what has actually led to his dismissal from the company.

Veteran WWE Employee Fired Due To Budget Cuts, Steve Austin And J.R. React

There were reports going around Thursday that Del Rio had a backstage altercation with a WWE employee, possibly a social media worker, and that he allegedly slapped the employee.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that sources are still claiming that Del Rio slapped an employee at this week's television tapings and that the worker was from WWE.com. There are a variety of different stories going around, but the most consistent is that he slapped an employee whether it be a social media worker or a reporter for WWE.com.

Ric Flair Likely For Monday Night RAW, Update On His WWE Status

Regarding Del Rio's wrestling status, he likely has a 90-day no-compete clause in his WWE contract as talents usually can't go to work for another promotion until 90 days after they part ways with WWE. TNA and AAA -- which is moving to the United States soon -- both have interest in Del Rio.

It was reported months ago that Del Rio, like CM Punk, was getting tired of his status in the WWE and was looking to wrestle in Mexico once his contract was up, so perhaps that is where he will end up after this ordeal.

The WWE took a different approach to announcing Del Rio's release by using his ring name on WWE.com instead of Alberto Rodriguez, which is his real name. The company also didn't wish him well on his future endeavors after his release. It seemed like it could have been a work based on the fact that his ring name was used, but that appears unlikely.

Del Rio, whose contract was reportedly expiring soon, didn't wrestle on SmackDown or the WWE's tour of Australia, so his match against Jack Swagger at Main Event will prove to be his final bout with the company.

Del Rio is a two-time WWE and World Heavyweight Champion as well as the 2011 Royal Rumble match winner, but he is now through with the company.
