Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson left practice Wednesday with an apparent ankle injury and his status is doubtful for this weekends preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Jackson joins Pierre Garcon (hamstring), Ryan Clark (hamstring) and Phillip Thomas (hamstring) as players who will likely miss the Thursday opener against the Patriots, but Jackson isn't expected to miss an extended period of time.
Coach Jay Gruden said that Jackson twisted his ankle on a play by "just a hair” and said he wants to see how Jackson progresses before making a judgement.
"We'll see how he does at rehab or treatment," Gruden said. "It was a fluke [injury].”
Redskin starters are expected to see around 10 plays of action in Thursday’s game, but it doesn't change the fact that Jackson and quarterback Robert Griffin III could have used the reps to establish chemistry.
Jackson joined the Redskins after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles for alleged gang ties as well as off the field issues with the coaching staff. Jackson is a three-time Pro Bowler and set career highs in 2013 with 1,332 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
