Former New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been waiting for a phone call as to where he will play in 2014. Holmes has finally received that call as the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears have inquired about his services.

Martellus Bennett Suspended for Training Camp Fight

The sudden interest in Holmes is no surprise as training camp continues into it’s second week as many teams are could be looking to upgrade a position group. The Bears lost No. 3 receiver Marquess Wilson to a broken clavicle and are looking for a replacement in Holmes.

The Browns, on the other hand, could be looking into Holmes as depth considering they will soon know the fate of star recover Josh Gordon.

NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus broke down Holmes’ status and his downward spiral since joint the Jets four years ago.

“Holmes, 30, is attempting to resurrect his career after a turbulent and injury-plagued four-year run with the Jets. The former Super Bowl MVP struggled last season in his return from a serious foot injury that required extensive surgery to repair. His declining production and well-earned reputation as a questionable locker room presence helped keep his name out of the mix during the offseason.”

The Bears signed receiver Greg Herd on Tuesday and could look to add Holmes to create a competition of sorts that will determine their No. 3 receiver.
