Bears general manager Phil Emery didn't go into length as to how long the suspicion will last, but did did speak about the decision making behind the suspension.
"Last night, we made a decision to fine and suspend Martellus Bennett for an undetermined length of time," Emery said. "This is a process that we're working with Martellus. We are in contact with him.
"Our goal is to have Martellus back as soon as possible. He's a very loved and respected teammate. We want him back, but it's a process we have to work through.”
When asked about a potential fine from the Bears, Bennett said simply “I can afford it” and didn't answer any other questions about the scuffle. Emery went on to say that the team will sit down with Bennett when his suspension is lifted and there will be a process to get back to normalcy.
"That's a process we'll work through with Martellus, and he's an active part of that process," Emery said. "We work through as a staff collectively and hear everybody out. We reached a conclusion that this is the best course of action.
"We think through all the dynamics to each and every situation. They're all individual. This is where we're at with Martellus. Again, he's a very important part of this team and he's a beloved teammate. We look forward to having him back as soon as possible.”
Bennett is the No. 136 player in all of fantasy according to Fantasy Football Calculator and is also the No. 14 ranked tight end. Bennett’s value should not be effected due to this suspension and he should come close to matching his career high numbers from 2013. He snagged 65 balls for 759 yards and five touchdowns in 2013 despite Jay Cutler and Josh McCown switching at quarterback due to injuries.
