A day after getting his first practice with the starting offense, Johnny Manziel is listed as the backup quarterback in the Browns' first official depth chart.
Washington Redskins 2014 Preview
The Browns released their first depth chart early Tuesday and it listed veteran Brian Hoyer as the teams starter with Manziel listed behind him. Hoyer returned to practicing with the starters at Tuesdays practice after Manziel got his time with them on Monday.
Reports were surfacing out of Cleveland that Manziel had gained ground on Hoyer, thus being given the opportunity to play with the starters. Coach Mike Pettine solidified the depth chart by saying Hoyer has a firm lead on Manziel and the time given to Johnny Football on Monday was part of a plan by the coaching staff.
Giants Running Back David Wilson Receives Bad News
Hoyer is expected to be the starter for the Browns when they take on the Detroit Lions in their first preseason game on Saturday. Manziel is expected to see time after Hoyer and will likely start the second preseason game against the Washington Redskins on ESPN.
Neither Hoyer or Manziel are expected to be a factor in fantasy football and aren't ranked in the top 200 players according to Fantasy Football Calculator. The winner of the quarterback competition could warrant a bench spot in deeper leagues or two-QB leagues, but otherwise they are irrelevant in 2014.
