WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross and former Superstar CM Punk no longer work for the company and Ross recently floated an idea to work with Punk in New Japan Pro Wrestling on his podcast.

Sting Added To WWE SummerSlam 2K15 Roster Reveal Panel

During an edition of his Ross Report podcast on Podcastone.com, Ross said that he would be interested in working with Punk as broadcast colleagues for New Japan Pro Wrestling's iPPV events.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that the idea of Ross doing some work for NJPW were talked about through other channels internally by the promotion, but the impression was given that New Japan didn't bite on the deal.

Monday Night RAW Preview And Rumors

Ross' contract with the WWE officially expired earlier this summer, though the announcer has plenty of other ventures going on.

Ross noted he hadn't talked to Punk about it, and it appears as though it was just an idea floated by the announcer and that NJPW currently has no talks of making it happen. New Japan is likely not interested in Ross because its iPPV's don't have as many buys outside of Japan.

Punk's contract with the WWE officially expired last month, though he hasn't been an active WWE competitor since he walked out on the WWE in January prior to a live Monday Night RAW telecast on the night after the Royal Rumble.

Punk walked out on the company due to his ongoing frustration over how his character was being booked and due to being burned out from the constant travel schedule. Following his contract expiring, it was said that things between Punk and the WWE were worse than ever despite his wife AJ Lee returning to action.

The "Best in the World" has enjoyed many outside ventures since leaving, including television appearances while he's also popped up at his hometown Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks games.

Given his free time, Punk was able to appear at the AP Music Awards last month where he said he was "never ever" returning to the WWE, and he also worked at Comic Con in San Diego on behalf of Nerdist, during which he said on his Twitter account that he hasn't had "this much fun in a long time."

Punk and Ross are both done with the WWE, but whether or not a broadcasting career at NJPW for either one of them is in the works down the road remains to be seen.
