The Manchester United versus Real Madrid friendly match set a new attendance record for a soccer match in the United States with a sell-out crowd of 109,318 packing the Michigan Stadium to watch two of the world's biggest football clubs go at it.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Man U-Real Madrid match broke the previous record of 101,799 in 1984 between France and Brazil that happened in Pasadena, California. And despite the rather hefty tickets that ranged from $45 to $189, soccer fans in the U.S. came out in droves to watch the two proud European football teams.

Manchester United defeated Real Madrid, 3-1. Ashley Young led the way with two goals in the first half.

Of course, all eyes were on Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, considered by many as the best player in the planet today. CR7 is recovering from a left leg injury that limited him in the recent World Cup. There were speculations that he will not be fielded for the game, but was surprisingly a 74th minute substitute. Afterwards, manager Carlo Ancelotti told AP: "His condition is improving .I think that he needs another week to train with the teammates, and then I think he will be ready for the first game of the season."

Young opened up the scoring in the 21st minute, but a goal from Gareth Bale evened things up six minutes later. Young then scored another goal in the 27th minute before Chicharito scored the game's final goal in the 80th minute.
