Two clubs looking to return to form will do battle today in a friendly between Liverpool and AC Milan. The International Champions Cup match scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET will be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and can be live streamed here free. Additional TV coverage can be found on NBC Sports Network.
For Liverpool, a victory would see the club through to the International Champions Cup final. Lifting the title, however, wouldn't erase the memory of last season. The Reds finished short of the Premier League title by two points, something manager Brendan Rodgers believes will fuel the upcoming campaign.
"Remembering that pain is absolutely what drives you," Rodgers said (via the Mirror). "Remembering the Chelsea game, the Palace game wasn't even the one. The Chelsea game was the one."
"I think that pain is a part of the process of winning," he added. "To be able to lose in the manner we did. What it has done with this team and this group, it has made us even more unified and stronger to be more successful in the future."
The first step toward that successful future can be taken today with a victory over AC Milan.
Tactical Preview
Player to Watch: The return of Stephan El Shaarawy could propel AC Milan back to the forefront of Italian football. The 21-year-old was forced to miss a majority of last season due to injury. This preseason, he's looked every bit the promising player he looked in 2012, when he finished the Serie A campaign with 16 goals and four assists.
Liverpool's Projected Lineup (4-3-3): Mignolet; Kelly, Skrtel, Sakho, Enrique; Can, Henderson, Coutinho; Sterling, Sturridge, Markovic
AC Milan's Projected Lineup (4-3-3): Agazzi; De Sciglio, Alex, Rami, Constant; Poli, Cristante, Muntari; Honda, Niang, El Shaarawy
