Newly acquired New York City Football Club (NYCFC) star Frank Lampard will play for Manchester City albeit temporarily until the start of the 2015 MLS preseason.
The New York Daily News is reporting that the 36-year-old Lampard will be on loan across the Atlantic for six months, or at least until the newest MLS expansion team begins its training for the upcoming season in March.
Lampard had just signed a two-year deal with NYCFC. His stint with Manchester City, according to the newspaper, is to keep his name in the mix for the English national team.
Aside from his interest in playing for the Three Lions, Lampard's other motivation in playing across the pond is to keep himself in shape in time for the opening of the MLS next year.
Lampard was part of England's 2014 World Cup team in Brazil which came up with a disappointing performance. He has played in three World Cups for the Three Lions, scoring 29 goals for the national team since he made his debut in 1999.
Manchester City and the New York Yankees partnered to put up NYCFC, in the process acquiring two stars in Lampard and Spanish David Villa. For his own part, Villa will be assigned to Manchester City's sister club Melbourne in Australia as part of his preparation for the upcoming MLS season.
An intriguing scenario would be possibility of Lampard facing his old team, Chelsea, where he earned legendary status after playing there for 13 highly-successful years. The two teams are scheduled to meet on September 21.
