David Wilson’s neck injury is more serious than originally believed and the Giants believe it is very unlikely that their 2012 first-round pick will ever play again.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, it would take a miracle for the Giants running back to get back on the field and that his surgically repaired neck just can’t take the punishment.

“The source said it would take some unexpectedly good news from Wilson's surgeon on Monday to convince the Giants that it's OK for their 2012 first-round pick to return to action.

According to another source close to the situation, Wilson has been very upbeat and has told people he'll be fine again after a couple of days off. His teammates backed that up in conversations Thursday.”

Dr. Frank Cammisa of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York preformed the initial surgery on Wilson and he was cleared to return to full contact long before training camp. Dr. Cammisa will take a look at Wilson’s neck and the two sides will go from there regarding the running back’s NFL future.

If Wilson injured the neck again, reports are that any more trauma could have devastating consequences on Wilson’s life. If Wilson cannot go, the Giants will turn to the other players in their stable of running backs. Peyton Hillis, free agent acquisition Rashad Jennings and rookie out of Boston College Andre Williams are next up for the Giants.
