College football’s first Coaches Poll has been released and the national champion Florida State Seminoles sit atop the rankings at No. 1.
The Seminoles received 56 of 62 first-place votes and head coach Jimbo Fisher told USA Today Sports that he believes this ranking is only the beginning.
"We're very excited about being No. 1 and happy to be No. 1, but we understand that we have to play like No. 1 and play great football," Fisher said "That's going to be our objective. We're proud to start there and now we just have to go play great football.”
The Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers rounded out the top five with the Sooners, Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes and South Carolina Gamecocks all receiving the remaining first place votes.
No teams outside a Power 5 conference landed in the top 25 as the highest was the Central Florida Knights at No. 28, but the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ranked out at No. 17. The Pac-12 has six teams in the top 25 and the ACC grabbed three spots.
