The Oakland Athletics have landed Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester and now the Los Angeles Dodgers have turned their sights to the San Diego Padres.
Cardinals Trade for Justin Masterson; Pursuing David Price
The Dodgers and New York Yankees are in hot pursuit of Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy, but according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal it is more likely that San Diego trades relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit. Rosenthal later added that the Kansas City Royals, Tornoto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins have thrown their hats in the ring for one of the two Padre arms.
Sources: #Dodgers interested in #Padres’ Benoit, but Pads would prefer not to trade him within division, if they trade him at all.

Sources: Teams on #Padres' Kennedy include #Royals, #Pirates, #Marlins - and others. Not certain to be moved. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 30, 2014
The Padres are clear sellers at the trade deadline, but mixed reports are emerging on their willingness to trade their arms before the 4:00 p.m. deadline. The Yankees have sent scouts to see Kennedy throw recently and it isn't out of the question to think they scouted Benoit as well.
Oaklans A's Deal for Red Sox Lester
The Padres haven't made their demands clear on what they would like in return, but the Dodgers could be desperate to make a move after Lester was dealt to the Oakland Athletics.
