Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will receive a two-game suspension from the NFL, under the league's personal conduct policy, according to NFL.com. The Ravens also confirmed the penalty on Twitter.

The suspension stems from a February incident in which Rice assaulted his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer.

Rice will not play during the first two regular-season game and will forfeit his salary during that period. He also must pay a $58,000 fine.

The NFL has informed Rice that he subject to additional if he commits more violations.

As a result of the two-game ban, Rice will lose more than $450,000 in base salary. The penalty isn't being received favorably on social media.

A video posted by TMZSports, showed Rice removing Palmer from a hotel elevator in Atlantic City, N.J. Palmer can be seen laying on the floor and appears unconscious.

A grand jury later indicted Rice on a charge of third-degree aggravated assault. Rice and Palmer have since married.

Rice would enter a not-guilty plea to the charge. He entered a pretrial intervention program in May, allowing him to avoid jail time.

The three-time Pro-Bowler is one of five Ravens players who were arrested during the offseason.
