The New York Yankees (0-2) will look to avoid a series sweep at home Thursday night as they take on their arch-foe, the Boston Red Sox (2-0), at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Boston seeks its first 3-0 start since beginning 5-0 in 1999, already with road wins against New York in the first two games of the season for the first time since 1935.

Boston will send out right-hander Ryan Dempster. Dempster, who spent time with Chicago and Texas last season, went 12-8 last season with 128 strikeouts in 28 starts for both teams.

The Yankees will rely on 40-year-old veteran Andy Pettitte in hopes of getting the team their first win of the season. Pettitte went 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 12 starts for the Bronx Bombers in 2012.

With an ailing lineup that has seen many starters placed on the DL, the Yankees took another hit last night when starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda recorded just four outs before a Shane Victorino line drive bruised his middle finger, eventually forcing him out of the game.
