The New York Yankees have traded for reinforcements as they have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres.
Yankees Targeting Ian Kennedy?
The Yankees will send the Padres infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor league pitcher Rafael De Paula in exchange for Headley. The Yankees will also receive $1 million from the Padres as part of the deal.
Headley is a welcome addition to a Yankees lineup that is batting only .252 on the season and is in need of a boost. Headley is only batting .229, but has been tearing the cover off the ball in July with a .323 average in 65 plate appearances.
Boston Red Sox Looking to Clean House?
The 30-year-old Headley is also a defensive improvement for the Yankees as he has seven runs saved on defense as opposed to the one run forfeited by the Yankees platoon of third baseman. Headley had an incredible 2012 as he hit 31 home runs and led the National League with 115 RBIs. He declined in 2013 and only managed a .250 batting average with 13 homers and 50 RBIs.
Headley is attempting to make it to New York for the Yankees matchup with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, but it is unknown if he will make it on time.
Headley is batting .229/.296/.355 this season with 7 HRs and 32 RBI. In July, he is 21 for 65 (.323) with 1 HR and 9 RBI.

Headley is more accomplished than Solarte. McCarthy is more accomplished than Nuno. If you're Yanks, you make both moves. They're upgrades. — Jack Curry (@JackCurryYES) July 22, 2014
