The Cleveland Browns have had one of the more eventful offseasons and coach Mike Pettine has held the ship together in his first months as coach. Pettine faced the media recently and commented on the status of receiver Josh Gordon and when he will name the team's starting quarterback.

Johnny Football Tops NFL Jersey Sales

Pettine first addressed the status of the Browns receiver in Gordon and said he doesn't plan on cutting the troubled star and expects him to report to camp on time.

"We're expecting him to report on Friday and be on the field,'' Pettine said. "We have no plans to cut him I know there's been a lot of debate over that, but I don't see us having that debate.’'

Pettine also said that he plans to join the Browns organization in an attempt to help Gordon through his issues.

"By league guidelines, whatever help we can provide him, we're going to do it. A Cleveland Brown is a Cleveland Brown. If we feel we can help him, let's help him. Sometimes you're handcuffed by the situation, so until it plays out then there's really nothing tangible we can do at this point.’'

Pettine also spoke about the status of the quarterback battle between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Pettine believes the competition is wide open at the moment and maintains that it is anyone's to win. The first-year coach did say he has a timetable for when he would like to make his decision.

Agent Vows to Help Save Josh Gordon

"It's definitely still up in the air," Pettine said "It could be sooner, and that's something we're going to discuss in that meeting. It'll be before the third preseason game. I just don't have a date. I don't know if I'll set a date and kind of paint ourselves into a date, but it will be sooner than the third preseason game.”

The Browns are entering a season with hope for the first time in recent memory and are looking to improve on their 4-12 record in 2013.
