There have been mixed reactions as to when the Green Bay Packers should retire Brett Favre’s No. 4 jersey at Lambeau Field. Favre himself was asked how he thinks he will be received and he said that he isn't afraid of getting booed by the fans that once loved him.

One of Favre’s former teammates with the Packers, tight end Mark Chmura, recently told ESPNWisconsin.com that Favre was scheduled to have a ceremony last season, but backed out last minute for fear of being booed. Favre then took to ESPN 1000 in Chicago on Monday and set the record straight about his status with the Packers.

"I've heard that was a concern of mine, and I'm here to tell you I'm not," Favre said Monday. "I'm not worried about that. I'm well aware that you can't please everyone. Not everyone's going to like you regardless, and you know what, so be it. But I think the 16 years that I had in Green Bay speaks for itself.

"Yeah, you're right, I have played with other teams, but I will be remembered as a Packer. I feel that. I think the true Packer backers, which there are tons out there, feel the same way. I'm not the first player to play for other teams or rivals.”

Favre was traded to the New York Jets in 2008 and then played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after the Packers felt they needed to move on from Favre. The deal worked for both sides as the Packers started the Aaron Rodgers era and Favre had major success in his time with the Vikings.

Favre said he did back out of a planned ceremony in 2013, but it was due to a conflict with his high school coaching duties. The Packers do not plan to retire the No. 4 in 2014, but have stated they will have a ceremony before Favre is eligible, and most likely elected, into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
