The New York Knicks have several options at shooting guard, but that isn't deterring president Phil Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher from taking a close look at veteran Dahntay Jones.

Jones, 33, is slated to work out with the team this week, according to a New York Daily News report. Despite Jones sitting out the 2013-2014 NBA season with an injury his progressional attitude, locker room leadership and close friendship with Carmelo Anthony have peaked the Knicks' interest.

A New Jersey native, Jones has a career averaged of 5.6 points on 44 percent shooting from the floor. But it's his competitiveness, especially on defense, that makes him attractive.

The Knicks' roster currently contains swingmen Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. However, reports indicate the Knicks are shopping Smith.

Smith is a solid scorer, averaging 14.5 points last season, but he sometimes was a distraction on and off the court last season. Like Jones, Smith is also a New Jersey native.

New York isn't the only team to Jone's hometown of Trenton, N.J., that is showing an interest in him. The Philadelphia 76ers are also scheduling a workout with Jones in the near future.
